Foreigner: Collected Writings 2017 Read more The aim of this publication is to broaden the debate around the subject of migration in Europe, and provide perspectives that are not often found in the mainstream media. It has been printed in an edition of one thousand copies and combines photos from the British Journal of Photography’s International Photography Award Exhibition 2017 with writing from some of the world’s leading specialists on the subject of the European migrant and refugee crisis. It also includes written texts from individuals that have experienced parts of this crisis first hand and an interview with John Radcliffe Studio about the ‘Foreigner’ project.
List of contributors:
Aly Gadiaga is 28 years old. He left his family home in Dakar, Senegal aged 19. He has been collaborating with John Radcliffe Studio since 2015. Aly speaks Wolof (a language of Senegal), French, Italian and English. He has lived in Catania, Sicily, for four years.
Madia Souare is a 26 year old writer from Senegal. He has been collaborating with John Radcliffe Studio since 2015. His writing focuses on the life of migrant communities across different cities.
Alexander Betts is Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs, and Director of the Refugee Studies Centre, at the University of Oxford. He is best known for his advocacy to reframe refugees as potential economic contributors to their host societies.
Charles Heller and Lorenzo Pezzani are both members of Forensic Architecture, a research agency based in Goldsmiths University that gathers and presents spatial analysis in legal and political forums.
Lindsey Hilsum is Channel 4 News’ International Editor and the author of Sandstorm; Libya in the Time of Revolution. She has covered the major conflicts and refugee movements of the past three decades, including Iraq, Kosovo, Syria, Ukraine and Rwanda.
